The best book for beginners

Hi all... actually this is my first contribution... if I can say it's a contribution anyway!!..

The thing is.. many ask about how to get to learn Java... what books to read..etc., but soon they give up because they get bored of the technical content and the boring way the authors present their material..

Actually, I'm not a novice.. but I was reading that book that helps passing a Sun's certification exam.. and that was real fun.. the authors: KATHY SIERRA & BERT BATES  really make learning new topics just some kind of interesting fun.. The funny thing is that a friend of mine passed me a book called "Head First Design Patterns".. I started to read the book and I found it really interesting... the reason I recently discovered is: because it was written just by the very same authors of the certification book I was reading in parallel with it.. again KATHY SIERRA & BERT BATES..

After some research I found that they wrote a series called "HEAD FIRST.." including the best sellers "HF Design patterns", "HF EJB" and the most important "Head First Java".. just read the review of the book from Sun's website itself http://java.sun.com/developer/Books/javaprogramming/headfirstjava2/

A good thing to mention is that the reviews say that even those with no programming background can find the book useful..

That says.. if you look for a book to really understand, you have to try a Head First book..

my experience...

Hi evreyone specially those getting to know java,

I don't think that there is a best book on the subject, since i'm a Symbian C++ developer and fired up with Java, well ppl differ so don't think its the correct naming, anyway here how i think the best way to learn any programming language:

1- Grasb whatever u can from any book available, preferably uptodate on the subject

2- Cultivate those things u've got with ideas u have in mind or willing to seek out

3- Google is ur friend

4- http://www.javaranch.com best friend at hard times (a Specific learning path for Java)

this is what i could think of at the moment, hope it was helpfull though

Mahmoud H.

The point is..

You are totally right.. I don't advertise the book anyway.. but I tried to help people who want to know about Java find an easy way.. that's it.. I also tried to introduce the authors.. and that was the main point... We just lack the  quality of reading books according to their authors.. and I think knowing the author and judging its approach helps in forming one's opinion and character.. I totally understand the diversity of opinions there is. Finally, funny to mention is that http://www.javaranch.com (according to yourself, best friend at hard times) was founded by Kathy Sierra..

thank you and good luck..

hi aif, well i'm happy we

hi aif,

well i'm happy we both agree on something, as for the javaranch website, yeah i believe it is a best friend, i.e i got into DSP (TTS & ASR) by a reply from another developer namd Elf so its a best friend in hard times i believe but as for the Heads First - Design Patterns book i really got something out of it at the begining then i got bored by the 4 dummies style and moved onto the GOF book "still using it to today", aif i'm not saying its helpless but believe me there is no best way for learning anything, anyway thats my experience and thats my opinion
