I am a power mechanical engineering in shoubra faculty of engineering.....in the last year......
Some friends told me that i will through the five years studying in the college away when i leave the mechanical career and work as a programmer......
So i need someone to give me the advice and tell me....Will i really lose something if i work in the programming career and leave the mechanical....?
you have to know that programming for me is a hobby not only something that i want to use as a career.....and i was oriented in the college trying to get into the computer science department in the faculty of engineering...but my grades didn't help me to log into it...
Plz someone help me _and i hope that this one is a mechanical or any engineering who works as a developer_.

First of all, be sure that any one can write a code and be a programmer, it doesn't need to study neither mechanics, CS nor any thing, so write code as you wish if this is your hobby.
But on the other hand, to take any job as a career, you have to ask your self first what do you like to do and what do you want to be after 10 years at least, when you answer these questions, you will know whether you can take mechanical engineering as a career or software engineering as a career.

Dear Mr. aly according to your last reply to Mr sherif regarding his question to be a programmer or not .
since you are a seneior software programmer ,if you belife that every one can write a code ,so why do you think that many companies accept only the developers who have computer sience academic background or Bsc. in computer science or engineering although there might be a highly skilled programmers graduated from other colleges not a computer science only

I think you mis understood my comment, but any way, please try to know first the difference between the programmer and the Software Engineer, it is a very big difference, please check the defintions of both and you will understand what I ment.
