Project Of The Month Feb 2006

jEdit is a mature and well-designed programmer's text editor with 7 years of development behind it.%%% While jEdit beats many expensive development tools for features and ease of use, it is released as free software with full source code, provided under the terms of the GNU General Public License. The core of jEdit is primarily developed by Slava Pestov, and jEdit plugins are being written by a diverse team of programmers from around the world. Some of jEdit's features include: * Written in Java, so it runs on Mac OS X, OS/2, Unix, VMS and Windows. * Built-in macro language; extensible plugin architecture. Dozens of macros and plugins available. * Plugins can be downloaded and installed from within jEdit using the "plugin manager" feature. * Auto indent, and syntax highlighting for more than 130 languages. * Supports a large number of character encodings including UTF8 and Unicode. * Folding for selectively hiding regions of text. * Word wrap. * Highly configurable and customizable. * Every other feature, both basic and advanced, you would expect to find in a text editor. thanks

i was searching for a small ide that supports code-completion because i'm running linux & i've a small amount of ram to run eclipse and netbeans, now, jEdit is made for me ;) thanks.

Welcome any time. :) i am

Welcome any time. :) i am using JEdit too even if i have a free memory. -------------%%% __Ahmed Hashim__%%%

Can you explain small

Can you explain "small amount of memory".\\ Is that mean you have a small amount of physical memory or your Linux taks much memory. \\ I'm using NetBeans on Linux with no problems so what's yours ----- __Michael Ageeb__ \\ OpenCraft Open Source Software Developer. \\ http://Michael.Foolab.org

i have a box with only 256

i have a box with only 256 MB physical memory , as we all know that eclipse or Netbeans requires about 512MB ram to run well & i'm building on it BinToo Linux - gentoo based Distro http://bintoo.sf.net !!

You can trust NetBeans

You can trust NetBeans I've used NetBeans on a 256 RAM 850/128 celeron processor before.\\ I wont tell you that the performance was great but with some memory optimization to my Linux appications specially window manager. I managed to run NetBeans, Firefox 1.04, OpenOffice 2, MySQL, Tomcat 5, and Apache web server with mod_jk and I was developing a heavy java web application that consumes a lot of memory and processing cycles and I could live with that.\\ I was using FC4 it wasn't so that great but I was able to do my work.\\ I'll move to DSL soon so I can get a better performance. ----- __Michael Ageeb__ \\ OpenCraft Open Source Software Developer. \\ http://Michael.Foolab.org

I thought

When I saw the Title "Project Of The Month Feb 2006", I thought it means that you decided to make an open source Java program every month as an activity in the JUG and I thought I may like the idea and contribute. But any way, thanks for sharing the information. Peace, \\Rami Sedhom \\http://ikhnaton2.manalaa.net

We have already a projects

We have already a projects " or project" but the idea of "Prpject of the month" came to my mind to spread out the OpenSource projects. We have the [EGClipse|http://www.egjug.org/node/153] check if you can help. -------------%%% __Ahmed Hashim__%%%

EGClipse project is a nice project but ...

I see. [EGClipse|http://www.egjug.org/node/153] is a nice idea. I've only 2 comments wish u could accept them: # Spreading out the OpenSource projects could be made through a 'Reviews' section on the JUG where members publish reviews on Java programs like the one u choose. These reviews should be opened to all members and not only introduced by Admins. # What I've thought of when seeing this article is something different. Let me introduce it here and discuss it separately if you agree about it: ** "Project of the Month" is a contest between EGJUG members ** Project of the month is chosen by some team or may be an open voting. ---- Rami Sedhom \\http://ikhnaton2.manalaa.net

It will be fine if we have

*It will be fine if we have a reviews section!. I added it to the [ToDo List|http://www.egjug.org/site_todo_list]. *In our vision, we will create a competition or contest between the member. But we didn't start it yet. I have the complete plan but we will start it as soon as we have volunteers to do. *Any other suggestions are welcome. -------------%%% __Ahmed Hashim__%%%
